Broadview Ventures, a mission-driven investment firm dedicated to accelerating the development of promising technology for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease and stroke, today announces the promotion of Maria Berkman to Managing Director of Longview Ventures. Longview Ventures is an independent investment vehicle that makes follow-on investments in select Broadview portfolio companies, focused on clinical-stage opportunities, typically Series B and beyond, as a complement to Broadview’s dedication to Seed and Series A financings. In her expanded role, Maria will focus on Longview Ventures strategy and evolution, working closely with the Leducq Trust and Longview Investment Advisory Committee to drive success and impact across the Longview portfolio. She will also continue in her role as Head of MedTech at Broadview.
Maria was the first full-time investment professional to join me at Broadview in 2012. In her 10-year tenure with Broadview, she has been instrumental in all aspects of the organization’s evolution and growth, including team building, portfolio strategy and investment management, and fund operations. Maria spent the first five years with Broadview as a generalist, investing across MedTech, BioPharma, diagnostics, imaging, and health IT. Since 2017, she has been solely dedicated to MedTech, heading up the practice, and bringing on board a top-tier team to support the MedTech strategy and portfolio.
Since 2012, Maria has closed 19 new investments, with several notable exits. Maria currently serves on the boards of Alleviant Medical, Aria CV, AtaCor Medical, RapidPulse, Vascular Graft Solutions, and Vectorious Medical Technologies, and previously served on the boards of Lyra Therapeutics (NSDQ:LYRA), Apama Medical (acquired), Remedy Therapeutics (acquired), and Capricor (NASDAQ:CAPR).
Outside of Broadview, Maria serves as a VC Mentor for the UCLA Biodesign Fellowship, Board of Advisors member at the Boston Museum of Science, member of the AdvaMed Investor Working Group, and Co-Chair of the NEVCA MedTech Academy. Maria previously served as an SBIR/STTR grant reviewer for the National Science Foundation and as a Strategic Advisory Board Member for the RAD BioMed Accelerator in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Prior to joining Broadview Ventures, Maria was a management consultant at Monitor Group, and trained within the Partners HealthCare System at Newton Wellesley Hospital. Maria earned a concurrent MD from the UCLA School of Medicine and MBA from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA, graduating Alpha Omega Alpha.
Broadview is strongly committed to the career progression and recognition of its investment team members, and I look forward to continued partnership with Maria in her expanded leadership role across the Broadview and Longview organizations.
