Former FDA Medical Officer and digital health innovator joins executive team during time of transformation in digital health

OAKLAND, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Eko today announced the appointment of Adam Saltman, M.D., Ph.D., to the position of Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Dr. Saltman will assume responsibility for leading Eko’s overall clinical development and medical affairs activities.

Dr. Saltman joins the Eko executive team from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As a medical officer at the Center for Devices and Radiological Health, he was awarded for his leadership of multiple programs related to medical devices. While at the FDA, he co-wrote a whitepaper outlining a new regulatory approach to AI and machine learning algorithms, which play a key role in Eko’s clinical vision. Prior to joining the FDA in 2013, he practiced as a triple-board certified cardiothoracic surgeon at various hospitals including Mount Sinai Beth Israel and the University of Massachusetts.

Dr. Saltman received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees in electrophysiology from Columbia University, in addition to an M.S. in health informatics from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a B.A. in biochemistry from Harvard University. Dr. Saltman is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Heart Association. Published in over 100 peer-reviewed articles, Dr. Saltman has served on editorial boards, conducted competitively funded research projects, and is certified as a Quality Improvement Associate by the American Society for Quality.
